Drawing largely on Warrior Healing Campaign Chairman Bingham Jamison's post-Iraq recovery process, and the lessons he learned while navigating the often confusing web of VA and non-VA resources available to veterans in central Virginia, the Campaign made two important observations:
- There are a surprising number of resources available to veterans in central Virginia, but many of these services are not widely known about amongst much of the local veteran community.
- Goodwill for veterans and their families is widespread throughout central Virginia, but the vast majority of people don't know how to help or whom to support.
To capitalize on the opportunities inherent to these central observations, the Campaign developed its four-pronged approach:
- To connect veterans to available local resources.
- To connect charitably-inclined citizens with a best-in-class local charity to support.
- To champion a major fundraising initiative to raise $500,000 on behalf of the chosen best-in-class local charity.
- To stimulate community buy-in for serving those who served - hiring initiatives, education opportunities, and monetary donations to name a few.
